Let’s get things straight

Senior year is supposed to be some kind of big revelation of what you are going to do for the rest of your life. Finding out where you are going to college for the next four years and what you are planning on majoring in basically determines what you will be doing with your future. Unfortunately, even knowing that four years I have spent enduring the IB program was all worth it thanks to my acceptance at North Carolina State University in the fall as a zoology major, I feel as if my senior year has not been highlighted by my academic accomplishments, but my passion for all things “Twilight” related.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love “Twilight”. Heck, nothing puts a smile on my face like watching an interview with Robert Pattinson, but this is not what I want to be remembered for. I don’t just want to be that funny “Twilight” girl, in fact I know I’m not. However I hope the people I have met and the relationships I’ve made over the past four years are not just based off of my odd fascination with vampires.

Though it may be difficult for some to believe, Taylor Lautner’s bazillion abs do not make my world go round. In actuality, I am an avid reader of Scott Fowler, a sports columnist for The Charlotte Observer and I will always prefer a hard copy of the newspaper to anything online; when I leave next year watching college football with my dad will be one of the things I miss the most; and roll your eyes all you want but I love country music, Josh Turner’s voice blows my mind. However these things are apparently just not enough, it’s more interesting for people to laugh at my allegiance to Team Edward.

I know the true friends I’ve made in high school will laugh saying they know I’m a “Twilight freak”, but also know that it’s not all I am. I just want to make sure that everyone else feels the same way. I guess what I’m trying to say is that we really shouldn’t put labels on people or write them off to be just one type of person. No one is “just” anything.

With that said, East Meck has been good for me and I know even with all the negative things people like to try and make others believe about East, I will remember the right things, the good things. Here’s to people doing the same for me.
