This fall in Charlotte, tons of opportunities are out there for students to get away from the usual bland weekend of watching television or going to the mall, and instead have a great time at an upcoming concert.
Whether you’re a fan of rap or country music, you’ll be able to find something that piques your interest. With new venues opening such as The Music Factory uptown, many different concerts have become available. Other popular spots include The Fillmore, Bojangles Coliseum, and of course giants Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre and Time Warner Cable Arena.
On September 4, Lil’ Wayne rocked Time Warner Cable Arena, leaving a lasting impression upon fans.
“It was outrageous, he came out and everyone was screaming insanely,” said junior Valencia Hicks.
If teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus is your thing, she will come to Time Warner Cable Arena on November 24. For the other end of the spectrum, Metallica will come to the same stage on October 18.
The recently reunited pop punk band, Blink 182, will play at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on October 6. Their dedicated fans have been anxiously awaiting a reunion since their 2005 breakup.
“Everyone can appreciate a good Blink song,” said junior Amanda Wilson, who plans to attend the concert. “Their shows are supposed to be amazing, and they’re likely to kick it up a notch since they just got back together.”
Of course concert tickets can get very pricey, especially for students.
“There needs to be more free stuff, because concerts get expensive,” said junior Jessica Berkowitz, a regular at concerts.
Luckily, Charlotte is beginning to have more free events. The Evening Muse in NoDa supplies cheaper shows, as well as a variety of musical options. Every Monday they host an open mic night, which costs three dollars. Also, once a month, multiple bands take the stage in the free ‘Gallery Crawl’. It’s a great way to discover new bands.
A fun weekend in Charlotte suddenly seems more likely with these options. No matter who you are, you’ll be able to find a concert that you can enjoy.
