Winter promises snow

This winter is expected to be one of the coldest and snowiest Charlotte has had in years, according to top long-range meteorologist Joe Bastardi.
The prediction was released in a 2009-2010 winter weather forecast published in early October.
Bastardi bases his winter projections on the impact of the meteorological phenomenon El Niño, which brings winter storms carrying winds across southern California and Texas to the south, occasionally curling up the east coast into the North Carolina area.
East Meck students have mixed feelings about the potential snow. Junior Virginia Harris is not particularly excited about Bastardi’s prediction.
“I like to be able to wear shorts on Christmas,” said Harris.
Conversely, freshman Trevor Fairbaugh is excited.
“There hasn’t been a big snow since 2002. I’m really looking forward to it,” said Fairbaugh.
This year will be noticeably different because the past two winters have brought little snowfall and warmer than average temperatures in areas from Washington to Charlotte.
