Butler junior and former East Meck student Osvaldo Sombo was arrested on August 11 and charged with two counts of second degree rape, as well one sexual battery charge.
Sombo, who transferred midway through last school year, plays football for Butler, and due to a CMS miscommunication, was allowed to play in their Friday game against Mount Tabor, despite his arrest occurring over a week before.
This event has caused much controversy in regard to arrests being reported in a timely fashion. As a result of the event CMS has decided to make changes in its protocol dealing with situations similar to these.
As a part of the new policy enforced by CMS superintendent Peter Gorman, a representative of the school system will go to the courts on a daily basis and pull out records or reports that relate to any students enrolled in CMS.
“We should have done it quicker, we should have done it faster, and we’ve put systems in place to make sure it doesn’t ever happen again,” said Gorman of the ordeal.
Sombo has since been pulled out of Butler and has been transferred to an alternative school and is currently awaiting his trial.
