Senior Snyder leads wrestlers

Senior Brian Snyder finished 4th in the state tournament, the tournament took place at the Greensboro Coliseum February 25th and 26th.

This year’s wrestling team concluded its season on a high note. The team had a big performance in the conference tournament and solid showing in the regional tournament.  

Senior captain Brian Snyder, ranked eight in the state, led the team to a conference season record of 1-6. Snyder has been captain of the wrestling team for three years, an achievement that not many people can claim. However Snyder will not be participating in the regional or state tournaments as a result of a

“He’s always willing to help us if we don’t know a move and he’s always there when we are wrestling,” said junior wrestler Ben Asefa.

The leadership has fueled the team, which also relies on its other two senior captains, Jacquise Kelly and Devin Moore.

“Devin keeps us in line if we play around too much or slack off, and Jacquise always motivates us and always gives us his best,” said Asefa of his teammates.

All three captains came up big at this year’s conference tournament, making it to finals matches. Snyder won the 14 lb weight class, Moore won the heavyweight class and Kelly lost in the finals of the 215 lb weight class. The team finished the tournament in sixth place out of seven with a final score of 103.5.

The regional tournament was hosted at Bojangles Coliseum on February 19th and 20th  the team finished eleventh out of 23 schools with a score of 59.5.

Snyder fell to Butler’s Dalton Cunningham with a 4-1 decision in the 140lbs final match. Moore also won his consolation match in the 285 lb weight class.
