Spring fashion revives old trends

Students can expect to see vibrant colors blooming outside, as well as in the fashion world, this spring. While purple was the color for fall, the official color of spring 2009 is yellow, ranging anywhere from a greenish-yellow hue to a school bus yellow. Tropical and pale colors will also be a must this season.

But purple’s fifteen minutes of fame are not up yet. The color has merely gone in a softer direction. Lavender is a lighter and traditionally more of spring or summer shade.

Blue is also a color that won’t be leaving any time soon and is always a safe bet.

East Meck has also seen a revival of 1970’s and 1980’s styles since 2008. This trend will undoubtedly continue into spring and undoubtedly through summer, along with styles from the 1930’s and ‘40’s.

Styles such as jumpsuits, vests, head wraps, simplified short jackets, fitted blazers, playful ruffles, strappy sundresses, and large sunglasses will all make their way into the wardrobe of the fashion conscious this season.

Like it or not, skinny jeans are here to stay as well, whether they belong to a man or woman.

Environmentally friendly clothes are also very trendy this season.

If your wardrobe has taken a hit due to the economy, consider shopping at stores that won’t drain your already light wallet. Current trends can easily be found at Target and other similar stores. Shops like Marshalls and Ross take name brand items and discount them at reliably reasonable prices.

Another good alternative is vintage or thrift store shopping. While sometimes hard to find, the price and the look are almost always worth it. Try Hong Kong or Something Borrowed, two thrift store located near downtown.

Remember to always check the sale rack, as many stores offer a good selection of sale items and you might be surprised what you find.
