The hallways of high school have been compared to a jungle, and its students, the hormonal jungle animals. Thus, new Assistant Principal Ron Bailey, who knows a thing or two about animals, may be just the man to tame East Meck’s wild ways.

Growing up on a farm, Bailey has always had a passion for animals. The former Eagle Scout graduated from North Carolina A&T with a major in agriculture and extension education, and a minor in animal science. Bailey then obtained his master’s in educational administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Bailey possesses a passion for agriculture and animals that stems from his childhood on the farm. He loves returning home to his family’s farm to enjoy the company of the animals.

“My avocation is horticulture, and keeping with my background in animal science, I love to mess around with animals,” said Bailey.

Coming from a family farm in Statesville, Bailey learned the value of hard work at a young age. He arrived at East after ten years at West Charlotte High School, and is dedicated to making a difference with students everywhere he goes.

Bailey has never doubted his desire to be an educator. As a teenager, he frequented day camps where he served as a camp counselor. Bailey was also influenced by the numerous teachers who he grew up with, including his sister and mother.

Bailey’s transition from West Charlotte was eased by the support of the strong administration team and staff.

“It was a very smooth transition here thanks to the staff,” said Bailey. “They helped me learn how the school operates.”

Bailey added that he was impressed with the student body and the outstanding work of the teaching staff. Bailey also has aspirations to be a high school principal someday.

“I want students to know I’m very committed to their education,” Bailey said. “I believe that every student can be successful, and I am here to ensure that success.”

In his first few months, Bailey had the enjoyable experience of celebrating the Christmas season with the rest of the administration team.

“The day before Christmas break, I was persuaded to dress up like Rudolph: the antlers, the red nose and all.”

For Bailey, such memories are just one aspect of his continuing commitment to the educational field, in all of its forms.
