Eric Bray is probably the only student at the school who can sing along in French to his own ukulele melodies.
A talented musician, sophomore Bray plays the guitar, the piano, and to add some spice to his instrumental resume, the ukulele.
“My mom’s colleague first got me into it,” Bray says of his uncommon musical ability.
Bray is also a devoted thespian. He has been involved in a number of theatrical productions for both his church and the school, and also serves as vice president of the school’s Drama Club.
“Eric is truly wonderful,” praised Catherine Metz, drama teacher and club advisor. “I can put him in anywhere, and he always manages to really pull up the show.”
Bray explained that his wide array of musical talents and natural knack for performance comes from a desire to please his audience.
“I just really like to entertain people,” said Bray.
Bray excels not only on the stage, but also in the classroom. He maintains a 3.6 unweighted GPA and is currently in his 11th year of French class, having attended The Smith Academy of International Languages from kindergarten to 8th grade. He finished his time at the school with a two-week visit to France, accompanied by his classmates.
Bray’s academic success is not an enormous surprise for some veteran teachers at the school, as Bray’s older brother, Tyler, also attended East. Tyler graduated last year and is now in his freshman year at Duke University.
“I just want to be the best I can be,” Bray said about his future aspirations.
At just 15 years of age, Bray seems to be doing that already.
